Yes! I have a great social life – in fact I’m going out for dinner with some friends after I answer these questions!
I think it’s a bit of myth that scientists spend all their time stuck in a stuffy old lab wearing a lab coat. Some of the most crazy, fun people I know are all scientists!
This is the second time today I’ve been asked this! I wonder if people think scientists are so busy they never have time to relax and get out. Well, we’re busy, but I like to think I do as much socialising as anyone!
yes thanks! What do i do in my spare time?? I like to sing, and sing in a couple of choirs. I love singing in large groups of people – harmony singing is good fun! I also play the guitar aswell….altho i’m no jimmi hendrix!
I play tennis, and the other normal stuff, like cinema, and the pub.
So yes i’m a normal guy really!
Absolutely! In fact, I think it really helps with the science. If you stare at something long enough, you start to miss obvious things, so I find it really helps to get my head out of science for a while to clear the brain. Often the best ideas hit you that way – you find that your subconscious was still working on the same problem the whole time and throws the correct answer at you when you were least expecting it. And you get to have fun too…
Of course! Life as a scientist can be quite hectic and hard work, but it’s really important to have an active social and/or family life or I’d simply go mad!
