  Hi that is a good question, and i guess one way to answer it to say that i wasn’t clever enough! In reality though, i guess at school i found astronomy a bit dry – the fact that the big bang occurred, or the sun was a fusion reactor didn’t really seem so important, compared to whether we could send a bloke to an asteroid.
  My view has changed now – i find astronomy fascinating, altho cosmology still bores me a little (perhaps the maths scares me!).
