Well i never realised that they were real until a few years ago, but the giant squid does seem to be exist – that would be pretty scary! This squid is 13 metres long – that would be very scary to meet. Although it would also be a lot of calamari (a squid based dish)!!

Hi tianxx. Who knows? The deepest parts of the ocean are actually a part of the world that we know very little about, so there could be many things undiscovered down there. Giant squid for example – we know they exist because dead ones get washed up on beaches every now and then, but noone has ever filmed a live one in it’s natural habitat.
Really deep down, though, the creatures probably aren’t very big. To get big, you need lots of food, and regularly. Plankton can’t grow at those depths (no light), so you can’t feed on them, and there won’t be many other animals around to eat either. Also the pressure of the water gets bigger the further you go down, which is a lot of work to withstand. So there are probably plenty of scary things down there, but probably not so huge…

Hi tianxx,
We know so little about what lives in the deepest parts of the ocean that there may well be some unique and weird looking creatures living at the bottom! They are probably not that dangerous though and not too scary.

I should think this is quite likely. There are quite a few scary small creatures (like the deadly poisonous box jellyfish) living near the surface, and there is growing evidence of gigantic squid in some of the deepest seas. An encounter with one of those would be genuinely terrifying!
