I think our world was created by the big bang, there’s pretty hard evidence for this.

The big bang theory certainly seems the best fit with the current data. However, that isn’t necessarily incompatible with there being a god, and there are certainly scientists who still believe in god. When it comes down to it, data always stops at a certain point, and personal belief has to take over. Belief can’t be scientific, because it doesn’t rely on data.

      Hi Mlricketts

There is masses of strong evidence now that the world was made following the big bang, though many billions of years later. That’s good enough for me.

      Hi mlricketts,
I think most people now accept that the big bang created the universe and so it also created our world. I suppose we then have to wonder what created the big bang?
Lots of people believe that there is some greater power that may have set all of this in motion (some kind of God). Other people don’t believe this.
Whatever you believe, there should be no conflict between religion and science, because I think both can be very positive and good things for the world.

hi mlricketts! oh and girafee2! More questions huh?! Just can’t get enough answers – that’s great!
well the universe was created from the big bang. What started the big bang?? Well maybe it was a ‘big crunch’ from another universe collapsing, or maybe some weird astrophysics, or maybe god. I don’t know!
Our world was created from the same gas cloud that created the sun. As the sun collapsed some material was left over and this was pulled into something called an accretion disc – a swirling disc of material that whirled around the sun. The sun was kind of like the yolk of an egg, and the disc the surrounding white!
Over a long time particles in this disc started to bunch together, creating small rocks orbiting round the sun. These rocks then joined together over millions of years until the ball of dirt that is the earth was formed!
