      Hi Pazza2k11

I probably enjoyed art the most, and at that time I wanted to be a musician/songwriter. I suppose one good thing about being a scientist is that I can still do those other things. If I had become a musician it’s very unlikely I could have been a scientist in my spare time.

I really enjoyed science and biology in particular.
I also loved english and business studies, but I think I always wanted to be a scientist.
What about you pazza? what do you enjoy most at school?

hi pazza. I enjoyed physics at school altho i also i also enjoyed history and geoegraphy. I think it’s a bit down to if you have a good teacher – i had an excellent history teacher.
When i was young i didn’t have any strong ambition to be anything really – i guess that might be quite normal! I had an interest in science though, and have just followed that through to a career. But i certainly had no plan!

Hi Pazza. I enjoyed biology at school, had a really great teacher, but like history a good deal too. I took both when I started university (in New Zealand you don’t have to specialise so early as you do here), but realised right away that I wanted to be a scientist when I took my first molecular biology class. It felt like suddenly I got a glimpse of how life really worked, and I wanted to know more. Then got obsessed by malaria after I finished my PhD – the combination of fascinating biological questions, and working on a disease that kills a million children in Africa each year, was enough to get me hooked. Still love doing it every day.

I really enjoyed History and Philosophy at school, I liked being able to construct arguments and really enjoyed writing. However I don’t think I considered either of these subjects as a career, in fact I had know idea what I wanted to do until I got to University and studied a physiology degree (how the human body works). It was then that I got really hooked on science, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
