I hope to contribute to our understanding of how the brain works. One of the things that really thrills me about science is that when I go into the lab in the morning, I am going to perform experiments during the day that noone else has done, and by the end of the day I will hopefully have gained knowledge that we didn’t have at the begining of the day.

More specifically to my research, I look at how vitamin A is used by the brain. We know that vitamin A is very important to the functioning of various regions of the brain and I hope to find out whether a lack of this molecule contributes to human disease – in particular psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and depression.
