      Hi ggd03,
      Great question.
I think the internet is the best invention. Think about it… all that information at our fingertips and the ability to talk to millions of people around the world almost face-to-face. It’s a very powerful tool for everyday life and for scientific research!

      Hi GGD

I answered a question like this just the other day. I know people always say the wheel is the most important invention of mankind, but my favourite is the iPhone. An incredible piece of technology.

      hi ggd03!
I would go for the transistor – the tiny little switch that forms the basis of all moden computing. It is so important to modern life, and has completely revolutionised science. Also we wouldn’t have this webiste if it wasn’t for the transistor!

I would go for the computer, and, by extension, the web. It has completely changed how we live our lives, how we interact as a species, and how we do science as well – much easier to share data and collaborate now. It is also an individually empowering tool – provides us with data to inform our decisions, rather than knowledge being only available to a few people, and enables popular movements such as the democracy movements in the Middle East at the moment. It has had a great impact all over the world, and although there are some downsides, the world as a whole is a lot better off because of it.

And of course, it has given us I’m a Scientist, get me out of here!
